Georg Scheel (born 1950) graduated with a law degree from the University of Oslo in 1974. While still a student he worked as a research assistant at the Scandinavian Institute of Maritime Law in Oslo. He was engaged there as an assistant professor from 1973 until 1975, when he joined the Office of the Attorney General of Norway. He was admitted to the Bar of the Supreme Court of Norway in 1977. Mr Scheel joined Nordisk in 1980. He was appointed Deputy Managing Director in 1986 and Managing Director in 2000.
Mr Scheel has extensive experience as a litigator and arbitrator, particularly in relation to large offshore disputes, and also as a mediator. He is a member of the BIMCO Documentary Committee and has sat on a number of committees responsible for the drafting of standard contracts such as The Norwegian Standard Shipbuilding Contract, Saleform 93, Gentime, Salescrap, and also a number of individual clauses including BIMCO’s Standard Dispute Resolution Clause. In 1975, he received the gold medal of the King of Norway for his work as co-author of a book on legal problems arising in connection with drilling rigs. He has written several legal articles.
